The Centennial Collection of limited edition prints is an estate-authorized posthumous publishing project representing the last prints to be published bearing the original signature of Henry Miller. The prints represent the best paintings Henry Miller created over six decades. In 1978 Miller was 88 and his health was failing and but he continued to paint watercolors daily. Inspired by the success of his prints that were published in Japan in 1975, Miller began this publishing project that was not completed until after his death in 1980.
In 1990, Gary Koeppel of Coast Galleries and Publishing, who was Henry Miller's art dealer for the last ten years of his life, collaborated with Miller's son to revive the print project. By 1995 the Centennial Collection, which consists of twenty-five of Miller's best paintings, were reproduced in small collector's editions of only 200 prints each. |

Biography 1891-1980 - Henry Miller grew up in New York, but spent many years in Europe, where his autobiographical and sexually explicit novels Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn were published in the 1930s. They were banned in the U.K. and the U.S. While in Paris he began a famous affair with writer Anais Nin, who documented their exploits in her diaries.
Between the 1940s and 1960s Miller settled in Big Sur, California, exhibited water colors and wrote, most notably publishing the trilogy known as The Rosy Crucifixion (the novels Sexus, Plexus and Nexus). His early novels were finally published in the U.K. and the U.S. in the 1960s, and Miller became a pop culture icon. He was both an artist and a painter who favored Matisse and Picasso who were his friends and contemporaries. |
